Sharon, I think your concerns are shared by most of us. Since I'm not sure if there are by-laws governing this situation...my own two cents worth is that the current board members select an interim president so that we can maintain continuity while we and they work out a transition process.

While I think Sabrina is a fabulous choice, I also believe that in the interests of time the interim decision should be left to the Board since they are more intimately involved in the day-to-day activities of the organization. I think we are capable of achieving stability quickly, if we handle this right.

Best regards,
Bruce

Hello to everyone tuning in- my name is Sharon Hoefler (class of '75). Although I have not maintained any type of major responsibility while serving on the board, it has been an honor to assist in small ways our very devoted schoolmates and friends who have worked hard to actualize all of this potential so many of you are contributing here in writing. I will tell you from first-hand experience that the board consisted of warm, caring, intelligent and creative individuals who did their very best to focus what to me were totally abstract conceptions; one being a reunion of this magnitude. I had never been involved in anything so daunting. There is so much involved that most of the time it left me feeling helpless to contribute anything of real value so I was pretty much a listener.

My connection to the Alumni Association began in 1997 when Maureen Clyne asked me to join her in making calls to our classmates to encourage them to attend the reunion in Bonn. Following the reunion, my position simply evolved through my friendships and because I live here in D.C.; not because I had any skills directly related to running an alumni association. I am a nurse. Basically I attended meetings and helped with mailings and telephone calls. I would love to continue on in a volunteer role assisting where extra hands are needed. I have enjoyed participating very much.

So that noone feels in the dark, I am listing here the names of the other board members. I hesitate to put everyone's e-mail address up only because some of them are work addresses, so there needs to be an okay from them.

I think it would be wise for everyone to chill a bit and not escalate this into a crisis. There are so many of you out there with good energy and great ideas. However, since things are a bit fragmented-- I'm not sure I can do this but I think Norman said we could somehow do a vote here; I would like to nominate Sabrina Farrar (class of '88) to take on the role of President or President in the Meantime. Sabrina chaired a recent meeting that Maureen was unable to attend and did a fantastic job. I think she has an excellent grip on all that is involved. Can we do a vote or have more nominations/other ideas to guide us through this transition? There is a lot that needs to be followed up on in addition to moving onward.

Board Members:

Sabrina Farrar Nelson ('88)
Libby Parker ('88)
Sally Small Inada ('74)
Bob Shackleton ('74)
Kathy Lahey ('74)
Sean Terry ('74)
Sharon Hoefler ('75)
