Jim - Be sure to check out the BAHS Documentation Project. A link to it is in the left hand margin next to this text. There is also a link to it from the main page. The Documentation Project also has a video clip of JFK and Adenauer. There are also various submitted texts that you might enjoy. Please consider submitting some text about your time in Plittersdorf as well, although what you wrote below seems like it's worth moving over to the documentation pages already.
Jim Rogers 1962-1965
Hi I'm Jim Rogers, my brothers Ken, Steve, David and I were in Bad Godesberg from 1962 to 1965 and lived on Steubenring. All those memories are still there. John Meara, Bruce Gernand, Bloise and Welch Hill, the Belisle's, the Shea's, the Valtin's, Cathy White, Nancy Wilkerson, Ron Druener, etc. Lots of fun and lots of memories.
My heart is really hurting right now!! Jimmy will be greatly missed, I think back on good times and he was in them alot,,,along with many more of you all!! Please lets keep in touch!

Re: Jimmy (#21). Jimmy will be put to rest on Saturday (8/1)at noon in Newport Beach, CA.
It is so hard to believe Jimmy is gone. I was one of the few people lucky enough to be able to call him 'Jimmy', not Jim. He was one of my closest friends in Bonn and we reconnected a few years ago here in San Diego.
I just can't believe Jimmy is gone - he was way too young to
I just can't believe Jimmy is gone - he was way too young to leave...
Still in shock over Jimmy. He came to visit last Dec and we exchanged emails just a few weeks ago.
Sad News re: Jim Webb (# 21). Sadly, Jim passed away on July 23 while living in Texas. Jim was 48 yrs old. He was a great Football and B-ball Crusader and was a reason that the golden years in Bonn were Golden. He was a sports fanatic, good looking and funny Most importantly he had a heart of gold. The world is a much darker place with out him. For those wishing to pass condolences to his family, additional information will be posted soon. Tina Frank
Norm...
Yes, it is, but many of the active folks have gone over to Facebook. But this website is still here and, like you, old-timers still check it out...

I was there from '64 to '67 (6th-8th grades).
Hello. I was in grades 7 - 9 between Sept 1963 and June 1966 at the American School on the Rhine . . . anyone else here from that era? Suit of armor in the school lobby, Mr. Avesian, Frau Stoltz, Mr. English, Miss Martinko, the Teen Club, bus to-and-from Wiesbaden High School every weekend, et al?
Hi
Curious to find any of these classmates from 5th and 6th grade in 1970-1973 time frame.
Looking for Marga Farre.
I'm trying to get into contact with Tina Dail, Robert Miller and Padam Law. Anyone know what happened to them? Thanks
Hi!
Looking for Jenny Stieglitz, Class of 1996.

Hi All,
Hi again Gabriel, If you are in Cuba I hope you are ok & Ike isn't being too hard on you. Louise
David Butterbaugh
Hi Gabriel,
Hi. It'll be great to hear from old friends again.
Hi Gabriel. It's Louise. Do you remember me? I'm glad to read after all these years that you are alive & well. I'm married also, I live in Bermuda & work for the Dept of Civil Aviation. No kids. I got in touch with Reed Benner as well from this site (who I really need to write to again!) If you want write to me at lfox@gov.bm, I had trouble with your e-dress. Hope to hear from you. Louise (Kortuem) Fox
Wow! Again. I accidentally discovered this site yesterday and am dumbfounded at what I see. I was the fela that asked 1000 questions usw. Nicknames: Brillo pad, Fidel, cuban, castrol, castroil,^&#&##**!!!, Ajax or mr. clean. Class of 79' was some experience for someone who had to learn a third language not being fluent at the other two. A happy marriage ( the hardest job, for anyone who inquires, which takes all of one's being plus the wallet [then came our son - BAM!]but the most rewarding of all) has a way of honing communication skills in every way, shape, and form. I need time to absorb this. Anyway, for all who remember Gabriel Castro [Ich,] danke fur the love or tolerance or both (I know there were some who I annoyed and others who, wow, cannot have a repeat - unbelievable!) Aufwieder tschuss! I do hope to hear from somebody.

Does anyone know how to contact David Butterbaugh? I spent many weekends at his house. I have learned that his father passed away a few years ago and would like to get in touch with him. Mr. Butterbaugh was a great inspiration to me and I can still remember sitting in his guidance office and also that VW van he used to drive around..I gather that David is a lawyer in Florida, but cant get any contact info on him. Please help if you can. Thanks!

Hi Janice,
Hi Everyone from BAHS,
Janice
Janice
Tom - Sorry my dad's name is Herb Kretzer...missed answering that!
Tom - my dad worked in international crime/scams while he was there...not Visa Control - it was all kind of secret plus I didn't care too much at the time. I will ask him if he knows your dad. He retired in 1997 but then went on to work for Transport Canada until just a few years ago
Janice
Tom - my dad was also in Bonn with the RCMP. Is your dad still alive? Maybe they know each other...they all seem to know each other. I was in Bonn 1979-1981. Janice
I was a kid in Bad Godesburg 1968-1971 (grades 2-4), father posted with the RCMP.
Looking for Kristi Ottendorf.....or anyone in her family...
Just a note of sadness to inform those who remember us of the unexpected passing of my mother Linda Buffham on May 9th. And a thank you to all the Bonn familes who have extended their prayers and condolences, which have been a great aid during our time of sorrow.
Hi everyone,
Sheila D. Bondurant! Yes, I remember you from the early 70s at BAHS. Great to see you on the message board. Welcome.
I've found Emily - thanks for all the responses. Go ahead and ignore the next post down.

Hello everyone from BAHS! I think I am pretty late finding this website. Please feel free to get in touch with me for anyone that still remembers me - hope to hear from you.
All hail Google! I can't believe what I'm reading!

Hi, Charmaine! Welcome back to Bonn. Last night I ran across homecoming and sports banquet programs. I didn't even recognize my sophomore football picture. Way too skinny.
Greetings and Salutations. Just thought I'd check to see if anyone remembers Rene Cote, class of '81, and if anyone has ever heard from her. Hi to everyone in the class of '81.
Hello Norman, yes, it is one of mine. I also updated the email address(es) in the directory.
I recently arrived in Dubai for a 6 month project and was wondering if there are any other BAHS alumni in the UAE. Would be great to hear from anyone.
Norman,
One more request and then I will stop.
Does anybody know Mr. Jeff Dye's current email address? He was the Biology teacher.
Anybody from the Class of 75/76 living around the Chicagoland are? I live in NW Indiana but work in IL (Morton Arboretum).
Is this "our" Boris Babic? Alumni of BAHS? Just curious when I saw "Boris Babic" on the byline of this web article regarding the latest Serbian elections:
Happy Holidays to all! Will be going to Bonn 12/27 for 10 days and am so excited! I haven't been back in almost 11 years and it will be the first time that my husband will be there.
Beulah, welcome to the BAHS website and don't be a stranger anymore.
Does anyone know what happened to Mr Ricardo Washington that worked in the office at Bonn from like 90 to 92? Just curious, I know he was prior Army and one hell of a nice guy.
Thanks:) I hope we do. The Moby Dick is what we called it in the late 8o's as well but is that it's real name?
The "Whale Boat" was called the Moby Dick. And it was still there in 1997 plying the river. Guess that was nine years ago now, but if it was still there twenty years after I graduated in 1974, then why not nine years after 1997?
Sorry just to clear things up I went by Peggy Burkhart back in Bonn:) Sorry:)
Hi everyone, my name is Peggy Oakes and would have graduated in 1994, but went to school back in the late 80's. I've been going to this site off and on for quite a few years but this is the first time I’ve actually posted a message ... beyond a few comments in the photo section. Anyway my husband and I are going to be visiting Germany this summer; we live in Seattle, WA. I was hoping to show him where I went to elementary, middle and one year of high-school:)Hope to take pictures of the old housing developement as well as the parks:) Was wondering if anyone would remember the name of the old "whale"boat that use to go up and down the river (don't want to give out the password:) Also if anyone would like to email me please feel free to do so would love to hear from anyone who remembers me:) Peggy
Hi, folks batch of `96.
One thing that might hit you psychologically is that you will be a minority there, like 1 in 1000. You may have a sensation that you are overwhelmed by the locals. People will look at you strangely. This is something you will get used to I guess...
Julie are you a Foreign Service family now? Just curious. There are a few BAHS alums in the FS and its nice to know who they are.
Hi Julie,
Julie, my experience of Africa is limited to the southern portion, but a lot of my colleagues have worked in Nigeria and Kenia. The best advice I have heard is to eat local yogurt the day you arrive. This puts the healthy local bacteria in your system, which helps protect your system against the strange new foods you will encounter. Good luck and enjoy!
Julie,
Julie, I'm not sure how much help this will be, but I'll offer what I can. I had the opportunity to travel to Ethiopia last year. The team I was with arrived in Addis Ababa (the capital) at night and headed nine hours south the next morning. The ride out of the capital was a huge contrast to my experience in Bonn. I'm not sure what I expected, but it seemed really odd to see comparatively dilapidated signs pointing down a rutty, gravel road...toward an embassy. When we returned to Addis several days later and had the chance to spend a full day there, the contrasts just continued: one minute I was walking down a dirty street past tourist-trap street vendors (where, of course, I picked up the obligatory souvenirs!); the next minute I'm walking into the opulent Sheraton Hotel with its three outdoor pools, immaculate reception area, full-service business office....
My husband has been posted to the American Embassy in Yaounde, Cameroon - we'll be moving there after the holidays. Any former BAHS alum currently living in Africa or have any experiences with Africa that you would be open to sharing? We'll be traveling with three young children, so I'm also looking for overseas travel tips with youngsters. Thanks!
Bruce,
I don't believe this information has been posted here yet, but I just received the sad news from Elaine Holroyd that Drew Reardon '87 has passed away. Below is a link to a local paper:
Anyone coming to las vegas can contact me for a good deal on Strip Hotels! (I work with 6 of them)
I've just discovered this site and have been sitting here smiling for the past hour or so just browsing through all the posts and looking at the pictures on the website. Amazing how time flies...
would anyone happen to know where these people are and how i can get in touch with them? I would really appreciate the help. 1. Tracy Hamilton Duggins, class of 75. 2.James (Sappo), class of 75. Sheila Bowling, class of 74.
Greetings Fellow Crusaders!
Anyone know whatever happened to Frank Reuss??
As always, thankyou for your efforts and hope your transition goes smooth. G
Hi Greg - As of this writing, none from that get-together is visible online. It is possible that someone uploaded some to the archive "receiving area" but I haven't checked that area recently and made them "visible" if they are. I will check for them after this message and if there are any I will try to make them "visible" soon. But please bear with me - I have just arrived in Wasington DC about 6 hours ago. Am in the process of moving to DC from Mexico; the house is empty, no phone, no internet access, starting a new job later in the week, so I've got a few things on the "to do" list right now.
Thanks Norman I was actually at the Vegas one. I was actually inquiring bout the more recent DC BBQ, is there anything on it?
Hello Greg - Go to the BAHS Photo Archive (there is a link in the left hand margin of this page) and click on "Las Vegas 2005" in the reunion section of the photo archive.
Just curious of who attended the recent reunion. Are there photos or a guest list I was just missing?
Hey Mike(Dunkley),
Hello class of '93! It has been a long time since I have checked this website. I hope all are well and happy and would love hearing from you. I will be going back to Bonn in Dec. and can't wait! It will be bittersweet I am sure, since so much has changed.
I'm looking for some grade 6-8 people from around '97. I'd like to hear what everyone is up to...
Just found this website. Anyone from class of '89? Email me sometime. Would love to hear from you.
Hi! Saw a message posted on July 14th - someone looking for me and Nicki Salvaterra along with some other people. Would like to know who's out there looking for us. Anyone out there who knew me (class of 96) would love to hear from you. I'm doing well and have been married for 6 years now. Just had a baby boy this year (March 17) St. Patti's Day Baby :) Living in Ky. Nicki is doing great... she just moved back to Washington D.C. Will give you all more info - just e-mail me at susanjackson22@hotmail.com Hope everyone is doing well. Take care - hope to hear from some people soon. :)
What ever happened to Brian Chapman?
Norman,
Does anyone know what happened to Michelle Ryan, Chris and John Lawton, Natalia Kneip, Susan Langley, Sebastian Bodden, Teri Lutz or Nicki Salvaterra?

After reading a couple hours worth of messages, there is more that I need to add. I was within thirty or so feet of JFK and Chancellor Adenauer when they came to Plittersdorf. I still have some wonderful event. I remember bagging groceries at the commissary and being a busboy at the Officer's Club to make extra money. The older teens always skirmished with the German teens and our younger brothers did the same with the Spanish kids. We always went down to Dorts Bier Stube in Bad Godesberg. We had the four litre club but not that many could hold that much beer. There used to be a wood hull monument in between the club and the Rhine but my older brothers and friends knocked it over and into the Rhine. I remember alot of teens having collections of Mercedes stars. The ambassador's son, Mickey McGhee, hung out with my older brothers. There was enough teenagers to have two pony league teams. Got boring after awhile. The little league teams were good. My little brother, David, was an excellent pitcher until they played Wiesbaden in the championships and got whitewashed. Other names I remember Maggie and Mark Belisle (lived on Steubenring), Larry and Barb Valtin, Cindy and Barb Williams, Linda Hall, Sue Hough, Ron and Pat Druener, Cathy, Jeannie and Bob White. I would imagine that alot of others used to get cheap bottles of wine and brotchen, take the ferry across the Rhine and explore the hills like we did. We all found so many WWII souvenirs washed up along the Rhine. Our teenclub was above the gym but it was alot of fun. Anyway.....

I was wondering how are you and where you are when I went through the years book. You probably don't recall me but never mind we used to talk sometimes eventhough we were not in the same class. I'm the girl from Thailand who was 2 years behind you. A friend of Marga Farre. Will tell you more about her if I have your email address. Glad to hear from you in this website that you are well and still have your sense of humour!

For all of you that knew Eric and were in his class. Eric passed away suddenly in April of 2008. Eric lived and worked as a attorney in Huston TX. He left behind his wife Virgina, his sons Jerry and Joseph , his daughters Johnna and Kelsey, and his granddaughter Chloe.
His brother Jack and sister Susie also attended BAHS.

How are you doing? We were in the same class in 1978. I do recognize you from the year book. Tracking back to that time, I think we hardly spoke to each other. I always hang around with Jeong.
It is nice to see you here. Wondering where is Kim Maas and Babara Reed? I just got a little news from Natasha and Matt Westerhorstmann. Got their email addresses from here. Thank you! I wish I could find more email addresses.
Hope you and your family are keeping well.

I was in Bonn from 76-79. I did not graduate there, what's a shame! I think I have missed a lot since I went through the messages. I went back to Bangkok with my family and graduated in Bangkok all the way. Work work work then got married with an Irish hotelier. We have one daughter who is just turned 13.
Where are the rest of class of 81???? I would love to hear from you. Especially from Jeong Min Kim who lives in Florida. I miss all of you. That 3 years in Bonn was the best time in my life which I can't forget.
Thank you to this website I just discovered by accident few nights ago. At least I know how are the people I know are doing right now eventhough some news was posted in 2001 !
I'm glad I found this website! Hope to hear from some of you. Bye

Got a hold of dad, and he doesn't remember your dad. But he did say that he was out of the RCMP for almost 10 years by the time your dad got posted, and most of his career with the RCMP was with the Security Service(forerunner of CSIS) which included Visa Control, and not on the Criminal Investigation side of the RCMP
But it sort still is a small world, alot more military and diplomats over there than RCMP

Did your dad work out of the embassy itself, or in another office. I remember my dad actually worked in Cologne, in an office high rise (building had yellow on the outside) not at the embassy in Bonn.

I don't remember all the people, but some I do remember. Peter Weeks (or Weekes, not sure of spelling) his dad was in the Canadian Air Force, and 2 brothers, last name Jefferson (sorry, don't remember their first names) Probably more names will come to mind the more I go thru the site
We lived on Europa Strassa, don't remember apartment number (we were on the 3rd floor) We were the family that hung a Canadian flag out on the balcony on July 1 And if anyone remembers, it was my brother (bad kid he was LOL) that threw a coke bottle thru a school window, if anyone remembers that
BTW the photos of the apartment bring back memories, but I remember ours having a balcony...did they take the balconies off the apartments or did some apartments not have them?

Father Steve McNally here. I served at the Stimson Memorial Chapel and St. Thomas More Catholic Parish from 1995-2001. I succeeded the memorable Father Bill Travers whose time in Bonn spanned 17 years! Though I was not directly connected with BAHS I have great memories of the folks whose children attended during my 6 years in Bonn. I celebrated 20 years of priesthood 2 years ago and have been enjoying the past seven years since being assigned to a fantastic parish in Bedford, Virginia, home of the National D-Day Memorial. Like Father Bill, I am a police and sheriff's chaplain as well as a sworn reserve deputy sheriff here. I have run into a number of former "Bonners" over the years and it is really great to stay in touch. Alles Gute to you all.

Having lived in Africa four years in the 60s and later travelled in West Africa, I would say that although there are "hardships" associated with Africa, being part of the embassy community will go a long way to helping you with most of them. As long as the crime level in Yaounde is not out of control, then at least you can rest assured that your tour isn't likely to have any trauma associated with it. (I say that in that in places like Nairobi, Kenya, some estimates are one person in eight gets carjacked at gunpoint.)

i been thru western and souhern africa on prolonged business trips... around cameroon, i have been to nigeria, senegal, gabon, congo, angola... never had a chance to visit cameroon. I would recommended you not go there with children as there are issues with basic necessities such as food, medicine, security, etc. Malaria and yellow fever is a big problem is western africa. You will need to get vacinated for yellow fever and take either a daily (small) or weekly (elephant-size) malaria pill to lessen the effects of malaria... as currently i believe there is no vacination. You would probably want to apply deets to the skin or apply mosquito sprays to your clothing. Also be very careful of water... do not drink tap... and when you buy bottle water make sure the security seal around the opening has not been tampered with. Be careful about salads as the water the locals wash them may not be clean. Be careful about meat, especially stews, as many locals may substitue "bush meat" for beef/chicken/pork or whatever... bush meat could be monkey, boar, squarrel, cats, dogs or whatever that is roaming in the tall grass or jungle. I dont want to scare you off about africa... but I just wanted to give you some ideas on what to watch out for especially when you are taking you kids... hm... isnt gedal and hadija from cameroom?

I'll write you separately, but if memory serves right (little chance there!), one of the Schumann's might be teaching at the international school in Cameroon along with a former Bonn teacher. If anyone else knows for sure, please post!

I have no idea what Yaounde is like, but it will be an adventure for you. And I'd encourage you to get out of the city every now and then. I spent four days walking through villages in southern Ethiopia and really felt like I had stepped back in time 2000 years. It was an experience I will not soon forget; in fact, I will long cherish the memory. I am anxious to get over there again.

The news of Drew Reardon's passing is so sad. I was a freshman when Drew was a senior - he would help us cheerleaders with our routines. I remember him as kind, funny and always surrounded by friends. Thank you for informing the BAHS community.

I am in the same dilemma. The e-mail that was given appears to be working but I have yet to receive a reply. I am unsure if it works or if it is dormant, or if Ms. Beams does not check it.
