Jim Rogers 1962-1965
After reading a couple hours worth of messages, there is more that I need to add. I was within thirty or so feet of JFK and Chancellor Adenauer when they came to Plittersdorf. I still have some wonderful event. I remember bagging groceries at the commissary and being a busboy at the Officer's Club to make extra money. The older teens always skirmished with the German teens and our younger brothers did the same with the Spanish kids. We always went down to Dorts Bier Stube in Bad Godesberg. We had the four litre club but not that many could hold that much beer. There used to be a wood hull monument in between the club and the Rhine but my older brothers and friends knocked it over and into the Rhine. I remember alot of teens having collections of Mercedes stars. The ambassador's son, Mickey McGhee, hung out with my older brothers. There was enough teenagers to have two pony league teams. Got boring after awhile. The little league teams were good. My little brother, David, was an excellent pitcher until they played Wiesbaden in the championships and got whitewashed. Other names I remember Maggie and Mark Belisle (lived on Steubenring), Larry and Barb Valtin, Cindy and Barb Williams, Linda Hall, Sue Hough, Ron and Pat Druener, Cathy, Jeannie and Bob White. I would imagine that alot of others used to get cheap bottles of wine and brotchen, take the ferry across the Rhine and explore the hills like we did. We all found so many WWII souvenirs washed up along the Rhine. Our teenclub was above the gym but it was alot of fun. Anyway.....

Hi I'm Jim Rogers, my brothers Ken, Steve, David and I were in Bad Godesberg from 1962 to 1965 and lived on Steubenring. All those memories are still there. John Meara, Bruce Gernand, Bloise and Welch Hill, the Belisle's, the Shea's, the Valtin's, Cathy White, Nancy Wilkerson, Ron Druener, etc. Lots of fun and lots of memories.

My heart is really hurting right now!! Jimmy will be greatly missed, I think back on good times and he was in them alot,,,along with many more of you all!! Please lets keep in touch!

It is so hard to believe Jimmy is gone. I was one of the few people lucky enough to be able to call him 'Jimmy', not Jim. He was one of my closest friends in Bonn and we reconnected a few years ago here in San Diego.

I have lots of memories of the past few years with Jimmy visiting us and the last time we saw him was right after Christmas before he moved to Houston.

I will miss him and I feel very sad that his life was cut short much to early.

I just can't believe Jimmy is gone - he was way too young to

Sad News re: Jim Webb (# 21). Sadly, Jim passed away on July 23 while living in Texas. Jim was 48 yrs old. He was a great Football and B-ball Crusader and was a reason that the golden years in Bonn were Golden. He was a sports fanatic, good looking and funny Most importantly he had a heart of gold. I was at BAHS during 76-79 and would have graduated in the year 84. After Bonn, I went back to Bangkok, Thailand for 2 years and spent 13 years thereafter in Canada for high school and university degrees. I am currently a research fellow (economist) at the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) in Bangkok. I just came back from Bonn after 30 years of departure and so would like to hear from old friends. Christina Boreel or Aseel Al-Nakib, are you out there somewhere?

Wow! Again. I accidentally discovered this site yesterday and am dumbfounded at what I see. I was the fela that asked 1000 questions usw. Nicknames: Brillo pad, Fidel, cuban, castrol, castroil,^&#&##**!!!, Ajax or mr. clean. Class of 79' was some experience for someone who had to learn a third language not being fluent at the other two. A happy marriage ( the hardest job, for anyone who inquires, which takes all of one's being plus the wallet [then came our son - BAM!]but the most rewarding of all) has a way of honing communication skills in every way, shape, and form. I need time to absorb this. Anyway, for all who remember Gabriel Castro [Ich,] danke fur the love or tolerance or both (I know there were some who I annoyed and others who, wow, cannot have a repeat - unbelievable!) Aufwieder tschuss! I do hope to hear from somebody.

I was in Bonn from 76-79. I did not graduate there, what's a shame! I think I have missed a lot since I went through the messages. I went back to Bangkok with my family and graduated in Bangkok all the way. Work work work then got married with an Irish hotelier. We have one daughter who is just turned 13.

Where are the rest of class of 81???? I would love to hear from you. Especially from Jeong Min Kim who lives in Florida. I miss all of you. That 3 years in Bonn was the best time in my life which I can't forget.

Thank you to this website I just discovered by accident few nights ago. At least I know how are the people I know are doing right now eventhough some news was posted in 2001 !

Got a hold of dad, and he doesn't remember your dad. But he did say that he was out of the RCMP for almost 10 years by the time your dad got posted, and most of his career with the RCMP was with the Security Service(forerunner of CSIS) which included Visa Control, and not on the Criminal Investigation side of the RCMP
But it sort still is a small world, alot more military and diplomats over there than RCMP

Tom - my dad worked in international crime/scams while he was there...not Visa Control - it was all kind of secret plus I didn't care too much at the time. I will ask him if he knows your dad. He retired in 1997 but then went on to work for Transport Canada until just a few years ago

I was a kid in Bad Godesburg 1968-1971 (grades 2-4), father posted with the RCMP.
I don't remember all the people, but some I do remember. Peter Weeks (or Weekes, not sure of spelling) his dad was in the Canadian Air Force, and 2 brothers, last name Jefferson (sorry, don't remember their first names) Probably more names will come to mind the more I go thru the site
We lived on Europa Strassa, don't remember apartment number (we were on the 3rd floor) We were the family that hung a Canadian flag out on the balcony on July 1 And if anyone remembers, it was my brother (bad kid he was LOL) that threw a coke bottle thru a school window, if anyone remembers that
BTW the photos of the apartment bring back memories, but I remember ours having a balcony...did they take the balconies off the apartments or did some apartments not have them?

Father Steve McNally here. I served at the Stimson Memorial Chapel and St. Thomas More Catholic Parish from 1995-2001. I succeeded the memorable Father Bill Travers whose time in Bonn spanned 17 years! Though I was not directly connected with BAHS I have great memories of the folks whose children attended during my 6 years in Bonn. I celebrated 20 years of priesthood 2 years ago and have been enjoying the past seven years since being assigned to a fantastic parish in Bedford, Virginia, home of the National D-Day Memorial. Like Father Bill, I am a police and sheriff's chaplain as well as a sworn reserve deputy sheriff here. I have run into a number of former "Bonners" over the years and it is really great to stay in touch. Alles Gute to you all.

I still talk about my trip to South Africa when you hosted me in 1989. What a gorgeous country! I got to share some stories with a college graduate student my Rotary Club is sponsoring during her upcoming year-long study along your southern coast. She speaks German and Flemish, so she expects to adapt pretty quickly.

Does anyone know what happened to Mr Ricardo Washington that worked in the office at Bonn from like 90 to 92? Just curious, I know he was prior Army and one hell of a nice guy.

The "Whale Boat" was called the Moby Dick. And it was still there in 1997 plying the river. Guess that was nine years ago now, but if it was still there twenty years after I graduated in 1974, then why not nine years after 1997?

One thing that might hit you psychologically is that you will be a minority there, like 1 in 1000. You may have a sensation that you are overwhelmed by the locals. People will look at you strangely. This is something you will get used to I guess...

Julie are you a Foreign Service family now? Just curious. There are a few BAHS alums in the FS and its nice to know who they are.

Having lived in Africa four years in the 60s and later travelled in West Africa, I would say that although there are "hardships" associated with Africa, being part of the embassy community will go a long way to helping you with most of them. As long as the crime level in Yaounde is not out of control, then at least you can rest assured that your tour isn't likely to have any trauma associated with it. (I say that in that in places like Nairobi, Kenya, some estimates are one person in eight gets carjacked at gunpoint.)

i been thru western and souhern africa on prolonged business trips... around cameroon, i have been to nigeria, senegal, gabon, congo, angola... never had a chance to visit cameroon. I would recommended you not go there with children as there are issues with basic necessities such as food, medicine, security, etc. Malaria and yellow fever is a big problem is western africa. You will need to get vacinated for yellow fever and take either a daily (small) or weekly (elephant-size) malaria pill to lessen the effects of malaria... as currently i believe there is no vacination. You would probably want to apply deets to the skin or apply mosquito sprays to your clothing. Also be very careful of water... do not drink tap... and when you buy bottle water make sure the security seal around the opening has not been tampered with. Be careful about salads as the water the locals wash them may not be clean. Be careful about meat, especially stews, as many locals may substitue "bush meat" for beef/chicken/pork or whatever... bush meat could be monkey, boar, squarrel, cats, dogs or whatever that is roaming in the tall grass or jungle. I dont want to scare you off about africa... but I just wanted to give you some ideas on what to watch out for especially when you are taking you kids... hm... isnt gedal and hadija from cameroom?

Julie, my experience of Africa is limited to the southern portion, but a lot of my colleagues have worked in Nigeria and Kenia. The best advice I have heard is to eat local yogurt the day you arrive. This puts the healthy local bacteria in your system, which helps protect your system against the strange new foods you will encounter. Good luck and enjoy!

Julie, I'm not sure how much help this will be, but I'll offer what I can. I had the opportunity to travel to Ethiopia last year. The team I was with arrived in Addis Ababa (the capital) at night and headed nine hours south the next morning. The ride out of the capital was a huge contrast to my experience in Bonn. I'm not sure what I expected, but it seemed really odd to see comparatively dilapidated signs pointing down a rutty, gravel road...toward an embassy. When we returned to Addis several days later and had the chance to spend a full day there, the contrasts just continued: one minute I was walking down a dirty street past tourist-trap street vendors (where, of course, I picked up the obligatory souvenirs!); the next minute I'm walking into the opulent Sheraton Hotel with its three outdoor pools, immaculate reception area, full-service business office....

I have no idea what Yaounde is like, but it will be an adventure for you. And I'd encourage you to get out of the city every now and then. I spent four days walking through villages in southern Ethiopia and really felt like I had stepped back in time 2000 years. It was an experience I will not soon forget; in fact, I will long cherish the memory. I am anxious to get over there again.

My husband has been posted to the American Embassy in Yaounde, Cameroon - we'll be moving there after the holidays. Any former BAHS alum currently living in Africa or have any experiences with Africa that you would be open to sharing? We'll be traveling with three young children, so I'm also looking for overseas travel tips with youngsters. Thanks!

A wonderful small-world story involving BAHS: I was having lunch with my 85-year-old mother at the National Gallery in Washington just now, and I mentioned to the waitress - who I realized was Ethiopian, and who was from Addis Ababa - that I went to high school with Sam Assefa in Bonn. She laughed and told me that not only did she know him and his brother Danny, but Sam just arrived in Washington as the Ethiopian ambassador! I just put in a call and hope to hear from him shortly. Small world, eh?

Heidi, Mike Fanning just posted a proposal to do a DC informal BBQ this summer under the Alumni Association folder...great minds think alike!

What's up with me now? Married, four kids (one of which will graduate this year, so it prompted me to think about high school a bit more than normal). We have lived in Guatemala for the past four years, and will be moving to Ottawa, Canada this summer. We will miss the beautiful weather here, but Canada should be another adventure!

I have worked for the Department of State (in U.S. Embassies) for the past 26 years, and have 3 years of military service under my belt. Retirement is only about 6-8 years away!

Don't want to turn this into a post on church (go to mmiblog.com for that), but I want to comment generally on the diversity/segregation comments of Jeff and Alex. I wrestle with this - one, because of my faith in a God whose stated desire in the Bible is to bring people frm all nations together into his eternal kingdom...so why can't we accomplish that on earth? Two, because I wonder if we really understand what diversity and segregation are all about. Wait - let me get away from the term segregation, since it has some strong negative connotations (and deservedly so). Let me rather stick with the word diversity.

We tend to praise diversity without necessarily understanding all that the term really entails. For example, one could walk into South Coast Mall in Costa Mesa, CA (Orange County area) and say there is great diversity; in reality, though, you're probably only looking at skin color - black, brown, white, tan, beige, ocra, fuchsia, lime, ... oops, those last few are hair colors! Yet I would venture to say that there is in another sense very little diversity in that mall: the vast majority of the shoppers are middle- or upper-class, at least second-generation Americans, and probably second-generation Southern Californians. The same comments could be made about a host of schools.

Most often, I think, we are clamoring for racial diversity, yet quite content to remain socio-economically "segregated." On the flipside, there may be a lot of places (whether churches, malls, schools, etc.) that are racially homogeneous yet socio-economically very diverse. My unstudied hunch: the former is more typical in an urban setting, while the latter is more typical in a rural setting.

Thank you for adding some spice the BAHS website. It is ok to rant once in a while.

Your observations regarding how people attend church are nothing new. People of all races, ethnic groups, religions, and cultures tend to gravitate toward the familiar and the safe...this is a natural tendency to be with those that share a common bond and identity. For many (this is my observation), church is mostly a social event and bonding opportunity...to be with like friends and family...and not so much some heavy handed path toward serious spirituality.

I used to attend church. I do not go any longer. Much of my alienation stems from your own observations...the church I was attending turned out to be one big country club for the Land Rover set...whose who in church gatherings and pick-niks, the token once a year one week moral cleansing at some orphange in Calcutta, India...not to mention the Friday night pizza parties with small group Bible readings...so much fun.

I suppose for some this works...for me, a hike in the woods with my camera works just fine.

Sounds great. I look forward to hearing from you in the future about how things are going. Shoot, with your mutt-denominational feelings, you should pastor some American Protestant church overseas somewhere. If I remember correctly, we were "multi-denominational" instead of non-denominational. It was pretty cool and quite diverse, especially compared to how stinking segregated churches are in general. Sorry, gotta get on my soapbox for a second.

It's sad to say that one of the most segregated times of the week in America is Sunday morning. We tend to worship with those with whom we feel most comfortable. While some of this has to do with theological beliefs and differences, it's just a disappointing image that we as Christians portray to the world when Black folks worship almost exclusively with Black folks, White folks do the same, as do Latinos and pretty much everybody else. Sure, there are some diverse churches out there, but for the most part, we seem to worship with our own race. During slavery the Christian church did very little to fight the injustice of the system (true, there were some who did, but most didn't) and many pastors even told people that slavery was "scriptural." Shoot, how much did the church do in the Holocaust? Even today in our world that is becoming more and more open to diversity, the Christian church is still very segregated. True, in 99% of churches you won't be asked to leave if you are the minority (Black, White, Latino, etc.), but we really tend to segregate ourselves and often make other people feel very "other."

I was just at Winter Camp with our High School folks and out of 575 kids, there were about 3 or 4 African-American kids there that I noticed. That was really disappointing.

Well, I've ranted enough for today. Randy, I pray that your move to Portland will be a blessing and that God will really use your time in seminary to teach you amazing things and give you guidance to illuminate His plan for your life and ministry. Just remember, your greatest ministry is not to your church, but to your family. We all need to keep that in mind as more and more "vital" meetings come up and our schedules get more and more jammed. Sorry, started to step back onto the soapbox for a second. Have a great day!

Heh. Didn't really think about piquing (did I spell that right?) people's curiosity with that one, but I guess I should have. Well, I don't know the names of the churches at which my uncle has worked, but he's Episcopalian. Now, let me clarify, I'm not saying that a person should not go to an Episcopalian church, nor am I saying that Episcopalian theology is flawed. In my opinion, my uncle's theology is flawed on certain matters and while he's a great guy and deeply devoted to his faith, I'm guessing that he was outspoken in his theology at those churches, so they likely agreed with him and continue to do so. Having read Randy's responses to various things on this page, and the fact that he's planning to attend a Baptist seminary, I'm guessing he'd have a hard time (as would I) calling my uncle's church his home. Of course this is not to say that all Episcopalian churches in that area have the same theology, as not all Presbyterian churches in my area have the same theology. Another "of course" is that if a person has theology similar to my uncle, then his church would be a great place to worship. He is a great counselor, higly intelligent, kind-hearted, giving and an all-around great guy who loves Jesus.

I don't know if you were looking for that long of a response, but I figured I'd better make myself clear, being that numerous people read this page and my words are in black and white with no good chance to clarify if I don't go out of my way to do so from the start.

Jeff, I was raised "basically baptist" but now consider myself something of a mutt - sort of a Menno-Metho-Luther-Bapti-Pentacos-byterian ... with strong non-denom-opalian leanings! Right now I am taking a hermeneutics (biblical interpretation) class at Bethel Seminary-San Diego; I'm planning on attending Western Sem in Portland. Not sure exactly what direction I'll head in ministry; probably an associate role (adults, missions, etc.) that involves a fair amount of teaching. We'll see if senior pastor is in the ... (I was about to say "in the cards", but that just doesn't sound right!) ... in the future. I enjoy teaching, but I don't know if I could come up with sermons 40-50 weeks a year!

Going for the MDiv Randy? Awesome! Where are you currently attending? I'm still working on mine at Fuller. Been there since January 2000 and still have about 2 years to go (squeezing a 3-year education into 8). I'm also working on ordination finally. I forget what denomination you are Randy. Are you looking at being a senior pastor, families, youth, seniors, children or something totally different? I'm really happy for you. I wish I could offer more help on Greek and Hebrew other than get them done as quick as you can. I found Hebrew much more difficult than Greek. I have huge respect for the Israeli kids from BAHS that had already learned the tough language of Hebrew only to have to learn the difficult language of English as well. I really think you'll enjoy seminary Randy. Oh yeah, since you'll be doing grad school, you have another tax credit you can claim (lifetime learning credit I think). Wish I had advice on a church in Portland. I just know of some churches on the WA/OR border I wouldn't recommend. My uncle has pastored up there and his theology is, well.....sketchy. Good luck and I hope you enjoy that beautiful region of the country.

I am looking for Mr. Alex Morgan. He lived in Los Vegas New Mexico but worked in Farmington N.M. as a Truck Driver. He worked with the highway department for a short time. He worked on the road from Shiprock to Gallup in the year of April 1981. He is tall,6 feet 4 and is a Hispanic man. He is around 45 years of age. Doug, I'm honored by your suggestion that I may be going for a doctorate, but no, I'm not quite there. I'll be working toward a Master of Divinity - I've always wanted to be divine! ;-) (Actually, I understand that divinity isn't all it's cracked up to be. I haven't seen "Bruce Almighty," but I hear he kind of learned about it in a small way. And look what happened to the last guy who claimed with any sense of authority that he was divine...he ended up - for a time, anyway - hanging on a cross.)

Anyway, an MDiv is the typical degree preparing for full-time pastoral ministry. I'm looking forward to it. I'm in a class right now on Biblical interpretation that is taught by one of the translators of the New International Version of the Bible.

Alex, I remember you well. I have a vivid memory of your feet sticking out of my Pinto (I think you had been known to sleep there from time to time) and lots of Bonn Fires...

Randy, are you going for your doctorate in theology? I've been reading a guy named Cardinal Newman because he wrote about higher education a lot. Have fun studying; I think it doesn't get any better than philosophy and theology (except maybe for hard core mathematics). Much better than the social sciences...

I had no idea this message board even existed. I attended BAHS from 1968-1970, 7th-9th grade which is when my family moved. I played little league, and was in the Ambassador Troop 56, BSA. I also remember Mr. Shapiro. I'm trying to find some old friends, Jeff Greiner or Brock Van Nuys. I recognized some names mentioned on the various boards, names I had not even thought about in 34 years.

Im still looking for Biene Hurst. Anyone been back to BAHS recently? I was there two years ago with my three children (now 3,7 and 9). What an experience. School grounds and buildings seemed to have been abandoned in a great hurry (I think due to move to Berlin). Everything has been trashed by vandals, chemistry lab equipment and computers which were left behind have been smashed, doors and windows used for target practice. Anti-Bush graffitti everywhere. Very spooky. I have photographs if anyone interested.

I used to be in touch with the Roger and Eliot a few years ago when they lived here in Seattle, but Roger moved to Vermont a few years ago and I don't know what happened to Eliot...

Richard, Coach Mac was my basketball coach for three years, as well as my U.S. History teacher. He was there until they closed the DoDDS school in 1997. Last I heard, he was at Quantico, still teaching.

Hello BAHS class of '81 folks. I was there my freshman and sophomore years ('77-'78), along with my sister Pam Kondoff. We were part of the Ford contingent that came over then to launch the Ford Escort "world car". We're all back here in Michigan, enjoying another hot summer.

Made it back to Bonn with my wife a few years ago, and it was great just to walk the streets again, see the school and sail the flood of memories. I tripped across this site by pure accident, and can't wait to explore it more.

I noted the reunion being planned for Vegas in September. My old trumpet playing pal Gil Kaupp is a professional trumpeter living and playing the Vegas circuit. Maybe we can look him up and get some good show tickets!

I am very sorry to hear about Frau Bohnen's pasing. She was, along with Frau Stolz, one of my dearest teachers. The last time I saw her was at the Guest House in 1986 (where we had breakfast together) & she looked healthy! I don't think I'll EVER forget her.

The Lewis' head South. My parents Stan & Sandee along with brother Peter are moving to Houston in mid-June from Pennsylvania. Peter used to live there until his car accident in 1996. My other brother Stan came home from Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq earlier in the month and headed back to Iraq two days ago for another stint with Kellog, Brown, and Root.

If you watched the PBS special, "In Company of Soldiers", one of the "stars" is Major Leiker. He is my oldest boy's Godfather and one of my lieutenants when I was a captain in Germany.

Nancy Moyer just sent word to my dad that Suzanne Bohnen, a BAHS Host Nation teacher for about 30 years, passed away a few days ago due to cancer. Unfortunately, that is all the information I know, but I can put you in touch with Nancy. - Bruce

CLASS OF 1981- In a spare moment, I opened this website and was amazed to see all the people from the past. Gregg Greenwood was kind enough to send me pictures of when Alley and I ran cross-country, that brought back lots of memories! Whitney Duter and I still keep in touch and Isabel Richardson(now Harrison)and Sybil Richardson (now Sybil Boyd) all live in Ft. Lauderdale with me and my sisters - Marina Larenz Jurchen, Lania Larenz now Lania Rittenhouse, after marrying Tom Rittenhouse from Bonn. My sister Michelle Larenz moved back to Germany and lives in Heidelberg. She is having the time of her life zipping all over the world. I briefly heard from Bob Daigle who I believe is still in Texas. Roselyn Spicka who is somewhere in DC?? Where are you Roselyn? Cynthy Getz is in Virgina. Mr. Rick Getze - do you all remember our basketball coach? He is lives in Ft. Lauderdale too. I guess a bunch of us ventured toward the sun and beaches. Will Rusch - how the hell are you? Do we still have that great curly blonde hair?

Oh, how sad about Mr. Thake -- I had him for English, too, in 74 or 75, and I gave him SUCH grief. 8-} He once said that my mouth was just like a flag: flap, flap, flap (that stuck for a while) 8-}. And Heidi, I remember you and your mom, too -- by all means, post the website.

His wife, Barb, says the doctors have given him a year to live. She is taking comments/memoirs from people on a web site that she will relay to Mel (he's still in the hospital). Gregg, thanks for the pictures. My 7 and 4 year-olds laughed at the Homecoming '80 shots and pathetic excuse for a mustache. The track shots, though, brought back many memories - like washboard abs, no lovehandles, muscular thighs, and hair. The windblown back look reveals as much forehead as my normal look now. Ah, youth.

Greetings from the past! My name is Dale Triplett and I lived at Hahn from December of 1981 until July of 1989. I have many fond memories of the great trips to Bonn over the years. I had the great pleasure of escorting Emily Butterbaugh to Prom my junior year, (quite the feat for an Air Force Brat to escort one of the High Class Bonn chicks to the dance!!) I was so nervous I left my car running when we got to the school!! So glad to hear that life has treated you well. Carrie Getchell was my hearts desire through junior high! I'd forgotten that she graduated from Bonn. (Won't hold that against you, Carrie!) Ha! I'm currently in Cheyenne, Wyoming and am working full time as a loadmaster on C-130's with the Wyoming Air Guard. I bounced around after high school and served a stint with the Marines, was married for almost ten years, (divorced now for two and a half), and have a beautiful eight year old daughter, Rebecca. Quite the musician, Emily! (I'm trying to talk her into the French Horn!) I'm currently awaiting orders to go and play in the sandbox within the next few days and I'll post back with a reliable address. Would love to hear from any of you old Crusaders who remember me or my little brothers. Curtis '92, and Brock '93. They were both great soccer players and spent a lot more time in Bonn than myself. Hello folks! - Just doing some late night surfing and I found this site ! I used to attend BAHS from Kindergarten through fifth (1967-1972) - whew - a while back! (My sister Janice attended from 1962 - 1972!) Am back living in Germany in the Stuttgart area - and have another 1 1/2 years until my family and I have to return to Virginia! We absolutely love every minute of it here....My husband and I are especially thankful that the kids can also enjoy the culture and good food! Have literally lost touch with those I knew at BAHS. I guess Gilad actually asked about "the Butterbaughs," not just Eric. I haven't heard from David in a while, but Emily is married and living in Ohio and has 1-year-old twin girls. Mrs. Butterbaugh is living near Emily. Mr. B died in an auto accident around Christmas several years ago.

Gilad Ber was asking about Eric Butterbaugh. He is in Colorado Springs now; I have a current e-mail address for him, if someone is interested. (I doubt the Yokota one is accurate anymore.) Eric and his wife Kate just had a baby a few weeks ago...if I had more of a brain, I'd remember some of the details (like, perhaps, whether a boy or a girl!?!?)

Ok, what is the scoop on the upcoming class reunion? Are we ever going to have another one in this life time or century? Elliot and Roger Garufi used to live here in the Seattle area. In a weird twist of fate, Elliot I and worked for the same company and literally bumped into each other in the hall one day in 1997. I hadn't seen him for 15 years. Roger, Elliot and I got together a few times after that, but then Roger moved to Waterbury, VT and works for a coffee roaster there. I have no idea what has happened to Elliot, he might still be living around here. Try a Google search and see if you can find him...

The BAHS Photo Archive has now been updated with everything that has been uploaded: about 20 new images.

Sorry for the delay - although the uploading of images is automatic, verifying that the images are suitable for display online is done by hand (albeit with software). My bad for not being on top of this. Especially for you in Iraq. My apologies.

The 'verify images by hand' routine is done to avoid people not in our BAHS community from adding junk/pornography/etc to the photo archive. To paraphrase a Supreme Court justice, although I can't tell you what would be obscene, I know an inappropriate image when I see one. At this time human intervention is the only way to do that.

which means in Hebrew "Lightning".
He is a Lawyer in LA and he deals with Real-estate, Contracts, Corporate Law etc.(Just like me here in Tel Aviv).As to his brother Rod, I don't know much. I met him only once at our graduation ceremony when he was still at West Point.I heard that nowadays he is a movie director/producer.

My kids oohed and ahhed over the mountain in the background. My seven year-old thinks you live in the cabin in the foreground. Joe and you were the first people I ever saw wearing cowboy hats. Now that I live down south I see them often.

Gilad, what's Barry Lurie up to? I hear about his brother Rod producing shows now and then from the West Point website. While Barry and I had lockers next to each other our Senior year, I knew his brother Rod for three years at West Point. The three of us got together during my freshman year for Thanksgiving dinner at The Ritz in New York City, then I saw him again two years later at West Point when Rod graduated. Rod mentioned someone traced King David's lineage and it ended with their father as a direct decendent and he would literally be the King of Israel. Interesting. The Lewis lineage includes royalty as well with King Macbeth as a direct ancestor on my father's mother's side.

I finished out school a couple years ago with a degree in Creative Writing. Following a natural progression I moved on to work in car insurance. Alas - not my dream job, but... I paint a lot to keep myself sane. (Maureen Clyne - I still have a photo of one of your paintings that I look at frequently. A beautiful dark piece set in nature. I'll never forget the time you spent talking to me at the '97 Bonn Alumni Reunion; it's rare to get that kind of encouragement - especially when it comes to visual art. Thanks again!) Hey there everyone. It's Mark Brockmann and I was in Bonn from 92 or so until 96. I haven't kept in touch with that many people from Bonn, so I guess that is mostly my fault.
Here's what's going on here. I am getting married next week, and some Bonn people will be there (like Joel Demos - he lives like 10 minutes from me in Minneapolis). I also now have degrees in chemistry and accounting and start an accounting job later in July. I work for Wells Fargo until then.....
Kevin Boz - you aren't the only one in Michigan. Moskals and Wasdykes are there, too....I think all of them are married, but I could be wrong.

Funny to see your names and to see you writing. I am living in Michigan, but crazy enough I just got back from Portland about two weeks ago. I drove out there with my brother John and his wife and kids. He just took a job with Intel and is living in Hillsboro out by Beaverton on the west side of the city. It is gorgeous.
I am married with one little boy. He is about 8 1/2 months old, and my wife and I celebrated two years just about two weeks ago. I always love hearing from Bonners, it sucks cause I am all alone in Michigan. I think that Susan Howle and Jenny Lombardi are around here somewhere, but I have never hooked up with either of them. The one person I saw once was Yvana Hrovat, but that was a while ago.

Welcome back! The Army is my second job. Notice I didn't say part-time job. My Army Reserve assignments have never been "weekend warrior" units since I left active duty in 1994. Currently I'm a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve and command a Military Police battalion. I'll send you a separate e-mail.

Shellie, Greg Bowers here, know every name on your May 28th posting; Caron, Mitch,Teachers,Kobus and even a few more Ihnot?, was also there till freshman year '79-'83, pledged BKS, never joined. Shouldn't I know you? Hello 'Diceman'. David J., Every day, multiple times....thoughts. Lighter side, I never thought I'd tell you that I thought your candle trick was so cool I did my own for a different reason 3 years after you. Result; no fire, less flame. I saw no smoke.

Mr. Bogle, true to the form of all good music instructors, was somewhat...weird, for lack of a better term! (Hey, it takes one to know one, right?!) But he definitely was a good instructor and I think a bunch of us had a good time in chorus and/or band.

I visited Bonn a few years (10?) after graduating and talked with Mr. Bogle about the music program. Things sure had changed. For one thing, there was much improved electronic equipment. But the quality--and quantity--of the musicians had also improved. In fact, Mr. Bogle said that he was then doing auditions. Back when Dave and I were in chorus, Mr. Bogle told me, the audition consisted of the would-be singer humming a few notes; if Mr. Bogle could find the same note on the piano, you were in!

Mr. Bogle was in Italy for a number of years, but I believe he's back stateside now.

Wow, you were a bad seed, eh? ;) Seriously, I remember certain "good times" at Bonn, but I think mine are a bit more tame just because I only went there through Freshman year. Never got to be a member of the BKS!

For me the memory of the trips from Norvenich to Bonn were really something. Wrestling, etc. Hey, we had to do something to kill time on that long trip!

I loved Mr. Bogle. I can't believe how I remembered his name, Bogus, hah!

Shellie, The music teacher was Mr. Gary Bogle. I was in the choir my senior year. I remember him saying to the class that we sounded as if we were standing on our heads. So I stood on my head and started singing. Needless to say he threw my butt out of class that day. Not as embarrassing as when I burned my locker down when I kept my 'light a candle for Poland and Solidarity' in my wall locker (do you remember that). Mr. Brown had called me the next morning to say that billows of smoke was coming from my locker. The principal called me to the office to explain myself. I told him that I couldn't bear to blow the light out on 'freedom' and kept it in my locker. He just shook his head in disbelief and told me to get out of his office. I was surprised that he didn't suspend me. Cost me some $$$ to replace my books and the books of the person next to me. Just thinking about it makes me think of the numerous other 'things' that I, as well as the Bonn Keg Society (BKS), did during those times. ;-)

Hey Dave, if you're old, I am too! I'm going to be 36 soon. I do remember Stan Lewis, but only because I was a googily eyed 6th grader. ;) It's so weird, even though I left there after ninth grade, it's the one place that I truly hold dear. I know you won't know these people, but I'd love to get a hold of Caron Stansill and Mitch Jaffe. We kept in touch with the Kobus's for a while, do you remember them? We went to Billy's wedding, but then we lost touch again.

I loved Mr. Briton! I also loved Mr. Horton, Mr. Bogus (I think that was his name, music teacher?) and Ms. Price, the art teacher. I wonder what became of them.

April! How are you?! I can't believe you're in the LA area. I've already been out that way twice this year and trying to get back soon (July, most likely). I'm in DC now, but I'd love to get together the next time I'm out there (if you haven't already moved).

My brother Stan is in prison. Literally. Maybe you heard of it before - Abu Ghraib. He's responsible to feed 2100+ people everyday in and around the prison. While he preferred his previous accomodations at the Bob Hope Airport, he's "cool with it" at Abu Ghraib. Since President Bush said he'll demolish the prison, the Lewis' continue the streak of destruction wherever they go!

For you Kerpen/Norvenich people I ran into a retired Air Force colonel last week who's now a JROTC instructor that was responsible for the electronics there in the late '70s. Can you feel the walls closing in on this small world?

Shellie, Your making me feel old (I'm only 39). Great to hear that you and your family are doing so well. There is another person in my office who use to work at Norvenich. Small world. They lived there just after I had left. Don't know if Norvenich still has an American presence. I know that the base still exists. Hope you get to go back there. I was stationed in Mannheim,Germany right after I got commissioned and was able to visit Bonn on two occassions back in the late 80s. I also ran across Mr. Bob Briton. He was teaching at Mannheim HS. Hi April! I was looking for you for quite a long time and I am happy to finally find you. I live now in Saudi Arabia. But might be moving to Dubai. I am now Creative Director for EURO RSCG Advertising... Doing well... What's going on in your life?

So, there I was- just sitting at my computer, polishing up my resume and got this itch to check out the BAHS page. "What the heck", I thought. So, I do a search on the page for my big fat name and "hey, Bob's you're uncle" there I am. And, people are looking for info on me. Elusive, dark and mysterious as always!

Well, the quick and the short of it is that I graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in '91 and have cooked/waited tables since. I live in Fort Liquordale, Florida- one block from the beach with my ex-girlfriend. (yeah, ask me about that one!) Anyway, I've been here for more than ten years. I've lived in D.C., L.A., NYC and upstate NY as well. I had a somewhat illustrious dj career that took me all over this country to play but that's simmered down.

I'm actually just a couple of months away from moving to the other coast, SF to be exact. I've been out there a few times and really like it. Seems to be the most European city I've found in America. Planning to work in fine dining restaurant(s) when I get out there waiting tables (more money, less stress than cooking) and restarting my dj career.

Anyway, I won't bore you with the details here, but suffice it to say that I've led an "illustrious" life since graduation (no run-ins with Johnny Law so don't get too excited). My brother, Sam Lantto '82 asked if I would pass on this message. He is looking for a picture of the inside of the club bowling alley to use in a presentation when he is inducted into the Minneapolis Bowling Hall of Fame this August, because that is where it all started. Sam is a 3 time member of the Team USA bowling team and member of the ABC national board of directors. Sam lives and works in Minneapolis as a computer systems analyst. I find it amazing that he has always found employers who have allowed him to follow his passion.

If Mr. Pino is out there, Sam thought you might have some interior pictures of the bowling alley. Anyone else?

This is NOT a political statement. Although I live by Scott Air Base near St. Louis, MO my day to day dealings with average soldier of any service has declined over the years. For selfish reasons I'm using this site to help me sleep at night. Most of you know this, but as we speak Private John/Jane Doe is walking on patrol in a foreign country. Almost worse than the feeling of possibly ending up dead like his/her squad member a month ago, is the feeling that life back in the states is buisness as usual. This is Mark Reeves. Kyle, I am also living in Arlington, in the Shirlington area, and I've been here four about four years now. I work for America's Community Bankers in D.C., and have been doing so for almost two years. The last time I talked to Sebad was about a year ago, and he was still in Las Vegas doing his thing. Bobby Bassam also lives around here, and from time to time we get together. Mike Rea lives out in West Virginia, but I haven't heard from him in a little while. Kevin, I was chilling with your brother-in-law last summer, he's good friends with my brother-in-law, and we all watched the fireworks last 4th or July. My parents are still living in Frankfurt (I was just there last Xmas), and they are moving back to the DC area this summer. Randy Ehle directed me to this site. I am alive and well. Bonn memories seem so distant, but great memories.

As Kim mentioned, I have lived in London for about 3 years, but am returning to Denver this Summer. Got to keep the US/Europe livingbalance at about 50%. I get to Germany often, but mostly Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich. However, I was able to detour to Bonn a couple years ago. It all seemed so much smaller and weird with the 'projects' altered, but I remember fun times. I just hired a guy from Bonn (technically, Bornheim) and we talk about the place often.

the P.D. officer does not raise my eye brows near as much as the libritarian part. I was beginning to think I was the only non major party person around here. I am a member of the
green party! And I actually get invovled in grass root activities, like canvasing neighborhoods to regester voters. We don't care
what if any party folks register to, just as long as they register and understand that every vote counts. I am also a yearly delegate to our state convention. The greens are not nearly as radical as most folks think. I really beleive that a third major party would be a good thing on the national government level. I too am a pacifist, but still served six years with the USCG.

Thanks for sharing your memory, it gave me a nice smile. My favorite memories involve any of us talking Mrs. Price into letting us scetch on the banks of the Rhine, hanging out in the art galleries downtown, running track and of course.......U Biers!! One memory that stands out
for me was the Italy trip and Mr. Manual explaining to a small group of us, the proper way to eat non-tourist style while there. this involved finding the center of "tourist land" and walking away from it. Far enouph until non of the proprietors spoke english....was the best meal, I have ever eaten, and a lot of fun as well

I've been a police officer in Shreveport, LA. for 14 years (if you remember much about me, you're either laughing hysterically or gaping in disbelief right now).:) I LOVE my job, but believe me, being a pacifist, libertarian, multi-cultural cop is a trip, especially here in the South!

I still think about our school trip to London and the horrible little hostel we stayed at. You might be amused to know that you were the first guy I ever brushed my teeth in front of, a life-altering event for me, the child of a very traditionl and proper Southern lady who would have been horrified to know that I spat toothpaste out in front of you! Funny, the things we recall...

Looked at your website. Your work is beautiful! I imagine being in business for yourself is hard at times, but the freedom it allows you, artistic and otherwise, probably makes up for the difficulties. If you ever do a show in these parts (Red River Revel is a good one, if you want to look it up on-line)and you need a place to crash, holler and we'll put you up.

Lauffenburger '78 - Where have I been the last 26 years? first ten in Paris,Timbuctoo and London. Last fifteen: Sudan (three years as head of the UN emergency Unit), next two in Somalia (humanitarian advisor to the UN mission), then a brief period of horror as an advisor to the UN force commander in Rwanda during the genocide in 1994, a one year stint in New York (UN secretariat), two years in the Middle East (special advisor to the head of the UN agency responsible for palestine refugees based in Gaza), three years with the congolese rebels in the DRC, six months writing a paper in Boston on criminal economies, eighteen months in Afghanistan,and now seven months as the head of the UN in Myanmar/Burma.

I saw Gayle Benson when I did my brief stint in Boston in 2001, I was unable to say goodbye to her before going to Kabul just after September 11. Hence my quest for her e-mail. You wouldn't know how I could fund it?

Randy - she taught junior high, too....she didn't give us any more breaks for being younger, either. She might have only done it that year, too.

I remember Ms. Beams all too well. I have my notebook somewhere...I have to check. I can't believe how much of what she was getting at stuck. Organizational skills...tracking events...covering your back. I did quite well with the notebook. I am naturally organized...the thing with her Creationism / Evolution debates was a never ending cycle of arguments. I must say that she was a very effective teacher...one of a kind...it is sad, so many of my college profs could have learned a trick or two from her.

Lesson learned from Ms. Beams - good, organized, and neat notes were essential in college. Unlike high school where 1) stay awake for a C, 2) read assignments for a B, and 3) do homework for an A, I learned very quickly that my poor high school study habits didn't work in college.

Speaking of memories, I have to say this: Kristin, it's hard to imagine that little blond-headed 7th grader taking Ms. Beams' 11th-grade history class!!!

Much as I didn't care for Ms. Beams' emphasis on the notebook, I used many lessons from that in college and other areas--organizing work into separate sections, keeping margins (always good room for adding notes later), etc. I guess I'd have to say that one of the hallmarks of great teachers is their ability to get you to learn things you don't even know you're learning, but that will help you later.

Bob Brinton had some similar qualities. I remember him always stressing that we should read through the whole test before starting. And I remember that paying off once--when the very last question on the test said to answer only numbers 1, 37, 45, and 79, then to sit quietly until the end of class. Oh, the groans that rippled around that class as people who hadn't followed his directions got to the end and realized the folly of their ways! (I've used similar tactics in quizzes I give my staff at work--mean boss that I am!)

My memory of Ms. Beam's class is listening to Matt Tate argue EVERY single point....he'd take any opp. side that she was telling. She'd have to redo half the plans and we were always a week behind than all the other classes! I think I just copied the school book into my notebook. Too bad it's not today - we could've just scanned and printed!!

My parents spent the week with Paul and Phylis Stanley and they were talking about who were the people that had the greatest positive impact on our lives. My parents came back and asked me the same question. The first person to pop in my head was Ms. Beams. Apparently she had the same effect on many of us. I was very saddened when my notebook was destroyed in a house fire during my freshman year of college. How great that y'all still have yours!

I have to say that my Beams notebook was the bane of my 11th grade existance. Take one very right-brained girl, insecure, very unorganized and new in school...administer one totally left brained analytical perfectionist teacher and you have the recipe for every nightmare I had that year. I rebelled against that notebook the whole year. I argued that one could not measure learning or intelligence by rote and document and neatness. I argued that my notebook was no valid measure of how much I retained or learned. She was rigid. Unflexible. Unbending. Merciless. So, faced with that and whatever huge percentage of my final grade was going to be based on that notebook, I spent literally 3 entire weeks before the end of the year rewriting and researching, borrowing notes, searching for missing papers, in essence, recreating the entire notebook to perfection to turn in at the end of the year. (I'd taken the F every other marking period).

You know what she did? She gave me an A. A 98. She went back and regraded the previous F's as well. She included a 2 page note in the beginning of my notebook telling me that she knew eventually one day I'd be very successful because when it came down to it, I had what it took to get by and could get it done. She said that the effort I put into redoing the notebook was worthy of her taking a relook at my grade. She wrote me a letter of recommendation to take to future employers as well when she discovered I wouldn't be college bound.

To this day, I have that notebook and her letters among my most prized possessions. I learned from her that year so much more than U.S. History. Of all the teachers in my life I hated her the most, and now respect her the most. She taught me that it is ok to raise the bar, because if you don't, no one will rise to meet it.

Last I'd heard, Anne Beams may have been in El Cajon, CA (near San Diego). But I live here and haven't been able to locate her. I'd be interested, too. I still have my notebook from her class! (I wonder if the Smithsonian would be interested...or maybe the Overseas Alumni Archives?)

I was wondering if anyone knew where Ms. Anne Beams (history teacher) was or what had happened to her? Anyone know?

I think if you look back through the old messages on this site, you'll find some good information about the current state of the old community. The PX, Commisary and Theater have all been ripped down. The church is still there and isn't going anywhere. The embassy club area is vacant. I'm not sure what is going on with the school, but I'm sure it is going to be torn down if not already. The housing is being sold and there is a funny website that lists the houses for sale with funny American names.

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to locate anyone from the Fillinger family. They were in Bonn in 1970 and I'm not sure if any of the them attended BAHS. Mr. Filliger was employed by Alcoa Aluminum. I'd appreciate the help.

As a note; I still live in Bonn and much has changed. The CDU building and the British Embassy
are being torn down, making room for new Detusche Telekom offices. The project has changed much as well and next year the old BAHS is scheduled for a massive restructuring. The Embassy Club is still
boarded-up and awaiting a new owner. It is under federal momumental protection and now provides skaters an ideal proving ground.
The Pubs such as Willies, Steinhaus, Ubiers ( now
Heidi's Bistro ) still have/serve faithful customers. Believe it our not, there still are diplomates in Bonn and O plated cars present.
Germany had the hottest summer on record this year
and the Rhine dropped so much that it revealed two
old Roman river ports, one at the foot of the Drachenfels in Königswinter ( across for the old embassy ) and the other just north of the Kennedy
bridge. The water is still low and this years wine
is supposedly to be a good vintage.
Let me know if anyone wants to know something else
of Bonn. It's still great living here.

Greg and family ~ sending you thoughts and prayers. I'll never forget leaving Bonn, moving on to the University of Arizona, Bonn H.S. far behind, at a frat party, thinking who is that party animal in the crowd of 100's of intoxicated college students, and when I turned around it was Daren! We couldn't believe it, how small the world felt, we were hugging each other like long lost friends do. The U of A campus was never the same after that! I will always hang on to those memories.

I am saddened at the news of Darren's death. One of my fondest memories of Darren was his Elvis impersonation at the talent show where he sang "All Shook Up". He could sure shake it. I will always remember Darren as a happy guy whose smile always brightened the room.

I am shocked about Darren's passing. I fondly remember Darren ad will always rememebr the great days at Bonn. Like Mike L my memories of Darren are on the football field. Darren was tenacious and had great heart. I also remember when he won his wrestling medal and he received help to remake others like it. Darren presented the medals to the wrestling coaches at the awards banquet. It was a classy move from a classy guy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Please accept my condolences. Daren was a blast to be around (unless you lined up against "Munch" on the football field.) You could count on him to liven things up at the Teen Club.

I'm shocked and saddened by the news of Daren's death. I have fond memories of the two of you - and I'm not sure why, but when I think of Daren, I recall the common injury that he and I shared in the fall of '77 - we both had our chins split playing football (he had his split twice that year as I recall).

It must have only been 3 or 4 years ago that I saw him last at a Bonn gathering at Mark Arthurs' house in La Jolla, California. He seemed healthy and happy.

I hope your pain eases with time. He should have had much more time here.

Oh my, Greg, I'm so sorry for your loss. I was Daren's date for his senior prom and your posting gave me quite a shock. I spoke with him through e-mail not long ago.

My brother, Daren Howard, Class of 80, was found dead on June 9, 2003. The cause of death was not determined. As some of you knew, he had epilepsy. But that did not slow him down at BAHS. He was quite the sports star and the life of any party he attended. He is greatly missed by his remaining family of his mother and older brother and two nephews that adored him. He rests now in the arms of a loving God and is at peace.

Ever been INSIDE a musical instrument? I have.

And now that I have your attention.... My father-in-law just finished building and installing a new pipe organ at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota. There is a dedication concert/service on Saturday evening, Nov. 1, and my entire extended family (on my wife's side) will be flying out for it that weekend.

The concert should be pretty good, and the instrument itself is awesome! If you're in the area, I encourage you to check it out. Info can be had at www.bethel.edu.

By the way, if you've never been inside a musical instrument, you ought to find the nearest pipe organ and ask someone to take you into the pipe room and/or air chamber. It's an incredible experience as you realize how one instrument can be so simple (it's just air and pipes) and complex (thousands of pipes in wood and metal ranging from pencil-size to 64-feet; thousands of wires and switches, etc.) all at the same time.

If you're ever out in San Diego, come visit the nation's largest outdoor organ in Balboa Park, with free concerts every Sunday afternoon.

Tom - Yeah, Karachi after Bonn. What a change. I don't think the embassy was open in Kabul by the time we got there. We never had any competitions against the Kabul school. I played volleyball in Karachi and New Delhi, Soccer in Lahore, and Field Hockey in Karachi. I went to Islamabad for something, but I can't quite remember for what. I think it was non-sport related. It's wasn't quite the bus trips we had in Bonn, but the flights were pretty darn fun too! Let me know when you are back in the N.O. area. Maybe we can have lunch or meet for drinks before you head back home. I'll be in DC the week of June 23rd, so that week is no good for me.

Karachi after Bonn? I attended Kabul before Bonn, so I attended several conventions in Pakistan. One was football in Karachi where I scored three touchdowns against - Karachi! Soccer was always in Lahore, basketball in Islamabad, and softball in Kabul.

The scenery in Afghanistan was beautiful, but I'll stick to return trips in Germany instead!

'93 and '95. Those cadkey sessions STILL make me wanna hurl ;) BTW any ideas as to what happened to Mr. Horton, Mr. T, Mrs. Heesch, Mr. Freed, etc.

Kristin: ML lives in Dale City. I don't know where you are, but I'm sure you aren't too far. I don't know how often she checks this site, but you may want to post her another one. I'll call her and have her look on the site and (hopefully) get back to you. Haven't heard from Sumi since she left Bonn (or did I leave first). That was almost 20 years ago. I went to (ugh) Karachi, Pakistan after Bonn and graduated from there. Total of 23 people in the class, 300 in the entire school! That is one place I don't ever plan on going back to! After graduation, I moved back to DC for 5 years, then to Australia for 2 1/2, Thailand for 2 1/2, Denver for 5, and recently to New Orleans and I don't know how long I'll be here. I have only been here six months, but I think I may grow roots here. Hope to have fellow Bonners down here next spring if they want to have a reunion. I'll call ML and let her know to get in touch with you.

Ron McBride (Grandpa) just spent some time in The Big Easy, so Mike Fiebig and I visited with him on separate to keep him company. He apparently learned his way around the French Quarter without any help, and naturally discovered Pat O'Brien's and the Hurricanes. He also grew to like Abita Beer which is brewed just thirty miles from my home. We wondered what life would've been like if we transplanted BAHS to New Orleans. Our parents would still be looking for us!

Ron and I had fun at Patty O's and Cafe du Monde talking about people we've talked to since our glory days. Ironically I just corresponded with another Ubiers buddy, Dave Jessop, this week as well. Between Ron, Mike, Dave, and I, we inhaled liters of protein in the old days to rehydrate after the many laps we ran on the track.

Okay, I'm a little late to the discussion, but Michelle I think your idea to have a reunion (mini or otherwise) in New Orleans is terrific. I've been there twice and loved it!! FYI, I've moved...again. I'm in Chicago now from Phoenix, my husband got a new job in March. I told him it was a good thing that I was used to moving so much when I was growing up; hopefully we'll be in Chicago for more than a year and a half! Randy: I'm surprised anyone in the classes before me would remember me. Yes, I remember you! It's been great getting on line and talking to people I haven't talked to in YEARS! After 'Lou graduated, the rest of us moved to Karachi, Pakistan, where I ended up graduating. We moved back to the states then, I got a job with DEA and have been traveling the world with this job for the past 13 years. It's been great. No spouse or kids. Pretty happy with that!! Guess I'm not ready to settle down yet. I moved to New Orleans last September and this is the greatest place I've ever lived (of course, besides Bonn!). There is always someting going on here and the people are fantastic. This place would be a great place for a reunion.

I had to do a double-take (or even a triple-take) when I saw your postings. At first I thought you were MaryLou Blair, who was just a couple years behind me. Then I realized, No, this is MaryLou's kid sister!

I don't even know if you remember me, but it's good to "see" you online and getting involved. I probably won't come out to New Orleans for a reunion--marriage, 3 kids, and a family spread across the country generally take priority over reminiscing with high school friends when it comes to our vacation planning--but it's fun to "get together" online and hear what's going on.

So, what have you been up to the past 20 years or so?!

Leigh-Ann: Are you kidding? Whoe doesn't have fond memories, of pretty much everything!!! I too have recently been in touch with our fellow classmates. It has been really enlightening!! Send me an e-mail. I didn't see your e-mail on the list.

Tom: I got your e-mail yesterday and didn't have time yesterday to get back to you. I got an e-mail yesterday advising of a "Overseas Brats" reunion being held next summer in Atlanta. I haven't gone on the web site to see what it is all about, but as I was thinking about it, would enought BAHS people go to that considering it is open to all overseas schools, and is it mostly military base schools vs. the international schools. I wouldn't mind organizing a New Orleans reunion, as I have a lot of people who I work with who can give me pointers and possibly put me in touch with hotels, etc., to maby obtain great rates. However, it has been suggested further interest in having one here in the spring 2004 be sought, which is definately the right thing to do. I'll give you a call over the weekend to get acquainted.

A reunion in New Orleans would be a blast. I asked about a reunion down this way during the DC reunion two years ago. The deal is - who will coordinate everything? As far as I know, you're the only alumnus actually living in the city. Several of us are 1-1/2 hours away (Biloxi, Baton Rouge, Franklinotn), but not actually in the metro area for effective coordination.

For those Alumni from the early to mid-80's classes...I had a brief visit with Danika Volkert on her way through D.C. She and her husband are moving to Switzerland. Danika's younger sister lives here in the D.C. area.
